Voluntary
The voluntary professional association of Czech pig breeders and producers; its members produce nearly three quarters of Czech pork. As a recognised breeding association it keeps the Czech pig herdbook, provides methodological guidance for the CzePig breeding programme and is responsible for the gene resource of the Přeštice Black-Pied pig. It represents breeders towards state bodies and in law-making, and provides information on markets, subsidies, animal health (e.g. African swine fever) and welfare.
Membership is voluntary. Any farm business keeping or producing pigs, whatever its legal form, and natural and legal persons professionally or otherwise active in the sector can join. Membership starts with a written application, approval by the board and payment of the fee.
Under the fee rules (valid from 2024), per year: CZK 8.40 per sow of average herd size (except nucleus breeding herds), CZK 8.40 per tonne of slaughter pig production, CZK 78 per boar for AI stations, CZK 198 per boar for breeding enterprises. Pig keepers pay at least CZK 720 and at most CZK 42,000 a year. Natural persons without pigs CZK 420; legal persons without pigs set individually, at least CZK 10,000. The basis is the actual average herd and production of the previous year.
