The BLHV is the voluntary farmers' union for southern Baden (the southern part of the former state of Baden, based in Freiburg), with about 15,000 individual members. It has six regional offices (Achern, Donaueschingen, Freiburg, Müllheim, Stockach, Waldshut-Tiengen) and is built on a network of local associations (Ortsvereine). Its main task is lobbying; it also offers legal, bookkeeping, tax and social insurance advice for arable farmers, foresters, winegrowers and fruit growers.
Voluntary. Under the statutes (2021), any operator of an agricultural or forestry holding and anyone connected with agriculture can become a full member; the minimum age is 18. The local association (Ortsverein) decides on admission. Members who employ non-family workers automatically also belong to the agricultural employers' association for southern Baden unless they decline in writing. Area: southern Baden, the southern part of the former state of Baden (mainly the Freiburg administrative district).
The organisation does not publish its membership fee — please ask directly. Under the statutes the board (Vorstand) sets the basis of the fee; the annual fee is payable in advance by 31 March each year. Individual services may be charged separately.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
