BRS is the national umbrella association for cattle and pig breeding and husbandry in Germany, based in Bonn. It has around 220 member organisations: breeding and AI organisations, performance-recording associations and companies linked to the sector. It drafts common breeding rules and recommendations, represents the sector towards politics and authorities, and supports research (animal health, welfare, environment). Farmers are linked to it not directly but through their regional breeding organisation.
Full members can only be legal entities that belong to one of the member groups dairy cattle, dual-purpose cattle, beef cattle, performance recording or pigs (breeding, AI and recording organisations). Associate members (without voting rights) can be natural or legal persons that support its aims, e.g. upstream or downstream companies. As an individual farmer you can join your regional breeding organisation, which is a member of BRS.
The organisation does not publish its membership fee — ask directly. Fees are paid by the member organisations; as a farmer you pay the fees of your regional breeding organisation.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
