Farmers' union · Germany · national
Voluntary
A nationwide German interest group for family farms that farm their own land. It describes itself as independent of parties and industry; its main demands are less bureaucracy, a reliable farm policy, strict origin labelling and animal-welfare-oriented livestock farming. It speaks out at state, federal and EU level and reports by federal state (e.g. Saxony-Anhalt, Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).
Voluntary. For farm businesses the farm manager joins; for the same fee up to two further persons (e.g. successor, spouse, retired farmer) can become members. Non-farmers can also join. Paying the fee entitles you to call yourself a “member of the Freie Bauern initiative” and to receive information, but creates no further rights or obligations.
Annual fee: €50 basic fee + €1 per hectare of agricultural land, up to €550. Non-farmers pay only the basic fee. The invoice is issued once a year by Freie Bauern GmbH.
Fee basis: area/volume-based
