The Austrian association of biodynamic farmers and holder of the Demeter label in Austria. Farmers, beekeepers, processors and retailers can join, and there is also a supporting membership. It provides guidelines and inspection documents and runs advice, working groups and training. It is part of the international Demeter network (BFDI – Demeter International).
Voluntary. To become a Demeter farmer you send an application and a conversion plan, attend two compulsory advisory meetings and convert the whole farm. You need a contract with an approved organic inspection body and must complete the course „Grundlagen der biodynamischen Landwirtschaft”. Livestock (ruminants) or a feed–manure cooperation is required, except for pure wine, fruit or vegetable farms. Conversion starts on 1 January.
An annual membership fee is payable; the amount is not published — please ask them directly.
