Voluntary
A non-profit association based in Barcelona, founded in 1981 and declared of public utility, that promotes organic farming and healthy eating. It was started by consumers; in 1981 it wrote the first Spanish organic production standards and, before EU rules (1992), issued its own „Vida Sana” guarantee label. Since 1983 it has organised the BioCultura fair for organic products and responsible consumption, and since 1999 it has run a master's programme in organic farming with the University of Barcelona. It is more a consumer–producer movement than a professional farmers' organisation.
Voluntary. Anyone who shares the association's aims can join; you apply with the form on the website and the association then contacts you.
The organisation does not publish its membership fee — please ask directly. Members (with a companion) enter BioCultura fairs free and get discounts on training; part of the payment (35–75%) is tax-deductible in Spain.
