No direct farmer membership
The French national network of CIVAM groups (local associations of farmers and rural residents). It has about 130 associations and 250 employees (2025) and for 60 years has worked for thrifty, more self-reliant farming, local food systems, farm start-up and transfer, and living rural areas. Following the principles of popular education, it supports groups through exchange of experience, peer learning and on-farm experimentation. Its best-known event is the “De ferme en ferme” open-farm days.
Umbrella body: members of the national Réseau CIVAM are the local groups and the departmental/regional federations. A farmer (or prospective farmer, adviser, teacher, rural resident) can join the nearest CIVAM association; admission of new groups is decided by the Réseau CIVAM board.
Farmers pay nothing directly to Réseau CIVAM; the network does not publish local CIVAM fees — ask your local group.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
