No direct farmer membership
The national federation of French machinery-sharing cooperatives (CUMA); the network has existed for almost 80 years. In a CUMA, farmers buy and use machines together and can also share employees. The national and regional/departmental federations help local CUMAs with advice, training and digital tools (myCuma).
Farmers join a local CUMA, not the federation. Farmers or persons with farming interests based in the CUMA's area, and agricultural cooperatives, can join. The application goes to the board president, who decides within three months. Members subscribe shares in proportion to their committed use; liability is limited to twice the subscribed capital. One member – one vote.
Farmers pay no fee to the federation. In the local CUMA, members subscribe shares (parts sociales) in proportion to their committed activity, and the CUMA invoices machine use; the federation publishes no amounts — ask the regional federation or the local CUMA.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
