Voluntary
The national association of Italian sheep and goat breeders, based in Rome since 1960. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture (MASAF), it keeps the herd books of sheep and goat breeds and runs their improvement and conservation breeding programmes. It operates a genetic centre (Asciano, province of Siena) and organises national shows and ram auctions.
Voluntary. Breeders (individual or associated) registered in the sheep or goat herd book can join if they keep at least one livestock unit (1 ewe/goat/ram/buck = 1/5, 1 lamb/kid = 1/10 of a unit, i.e. at least 5 adult animals). Cooperatives and organisations marketing the breeds can also join. The board of directors decides on admission.
2026 price list: one-off entry fee €50 (first herd-book registration); annual herd-book fee €30 per farm (fixed part), plus per-head fees for services (e.g. €0.30 per animal for basic herd-book work).
Fee basis: number of animals
