Voluntary
The breeding organisation for the Mangalica, Hungary's only native pig breed, re-founded in 1994. Recognised by NÉBIH, it keeps the Mangalica herdbook and runs the breed's breeding programme and gene conservation. It is for farmers who keep Mangalica pigs and want to keep or sell registered breeding stock.
Membership is voluntary. You can become a full member if you own at least 10 registered Mangalica pigs, accept the statutes and pay the fee; the general assembly decides on admission. The information sheet for new members asks for at least 10 breeding sows, 300–500 m² of pig housing and freedom from four diseases (brucellosis, leptospirosis, Aujeszky's disease, PRRS). Only herds taking part in the breeding programme can produce registered offspring and trade breeding animals.
The fee is set by the general assembly and is due by 31 March each year. According to the website (2015 data) it is HUF 1,000 per purebred Mangalica sow per year; a boar pedigree certificate costs HUF 5,000 + VAT, a sow certificate HUF 2,500 + VAT, a farm inspection HUF 20,000 + VAT.
