Voluntary
The cattle breeding cooperative (eGen) of Burgenland, based in Oberwart and active since 1925. It has about 400 member farms keeping about 20,000 cattle, including nearly 4,000 dairy cows. It covers breeding, marketing, quality assurance and performance testing for all breeds; on behalf of the provincial government it carries out performance testing on all cattle breeding farms in Burgenland. It is a member of Rinderzucht Austria.
Membership is voluntary. Members can be natural or legal persons or partnerships that own land or run a farm in the cooperative's area (Burgenland and the Wiener Neustadt and Neunkirchen districts of Lower Austria); others can be admitted if this is in the cooperative's interest. You join with a written membership declaration; membership starts when it arrives unless the board rejects it within 3 months. Members in a breeding programme must follow its rules.
On joining you must subscribe and pay at least one cooperative share immediately; one share is EUR 10 (statutes, April 2022). An entry fee is also due, set by the board. The organisation does not publish the entry fee or any annual charges — please ask them directly.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
