Voluntary
The cattle breeding cooperative (eGen) of Carinthia, based in St. Veit an der Glan. It was formed on 22 August 2020 by the merger of kärntnerrind ZVB eGen and Kärntner Holstein-Verband; in December 2024 it had 1,502 members. It looks after eight breed groups (among them Fleckvieh, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Jersey, Original Pinzgauer, Kärntner Blondvieh and beef breeds). It works on a non-profit basis as an advisory, brokerage and support organisation and is a member of Rinderzucht Austria.
Membership is voluntary. Members can be natural or legal persons who keep their breeding animals according to the breeding programme and herdbook rules and take part in breeding work; also breeding cooperatives, associations and other organisations serving cattle breeding, and persons or organisations whose admission is in the cooperative's interest. You join by signing a membership declaration; the board decides on admission. The area of activity is all of Austria.
On joining you must subscribe and pay at least one cooperative share immediately; one share is EUR 4 (paid-in shares are refunded when you leave). An annual membership fee and possibly an entry fee are also due; the board sets them and the organisation does not publish the amounts — please ask them directly.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
