No direct farmer membership
The national farmers' union of Germany, founded in 1948 and independent of political parties. Its members are the 18 state farmers' associations (Landesbauernverbände) plus the Deutscher Raiffeisenverband and vlf; through them about 255,000 farms belong to it, over 80% of German farms. Its departments represent farmers in crops, livestock, environment, law-tax-economics and EU affairs in Berlin and Brussels.
Umbrella body: farmers are not direct members of the DBV but join through their local (Orts-, Kreis-) and state farmers' association. Membership is voluntary.
Farmers pay nothing directly to the DBV; it is funded by the fees of the state associations. The fee is set by the state association.
