Voluntary
An organic association founded in 1982 by farmers and scientists in Gräfelfing near Munich, active internationally since 1986 and today in about 68 countries. It is present in every German federal state; in September 2026 it reached its 5,000th Naturland farm in Germany. Its own standards go beyond crops and livestock to beekeeping, aquaculture, fishing, forestry and processing, and include social criteria (Naturland Fair).
Voluntary. Producers and processors can join. The steps are: information, an on-site first evaluation, a producer contract (committing to the Naturland standards and regular inspections), an inspection contract with a recognised independent control body, and then Naturland's recognition commission decides on certification. Using the Naturland label needs a separate sub-licence contract with Naturland Zeichen GmbH.
