No direct farmer membership
The national umbrella body of the Spanish wine designation-of-origin councils (Consejos Reguladores), active since 1991 and a registered association since 2008. By its own figures it groups 56 councils and 58 wine PDOs (out of Spain's 70), with about 90,000 grape growers and 3,500 wineries. It represents the PDOs with the ministry and – through EFOW – in the EU, and promotes PDO wines (Movimiento Vino D.O.).
A farmer cannot join directly: CECRV's members are the Consejos Reguladores. Anyone growing PDO wine or grapes for a PDO registers the vineyard or winery with the Consejo Regulador of their PDO; this is a condition for using the PDO name, and the Consejo may levy contributions (Ley 6/2015, art. 18; for regional PDOs under the law of the autonomous community).
There is no individual membership fee for the umbrella. Contributions are set and collected by the Consejo Regulador of the PDO concerned (e.g. by area or volume produced) — ask your own Consejo for the amount.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
