Mandatory levy, no membership
The interprofessional body for French ware and early potatoes, set up under the law of 10 July 1975 and recognised by the public authorities. Its seven members are farmers' (UNPT, Coordination Rurale), cooperative, trade, packing and retail federations. It collects market data, funds quality and research programmes and promotes potato consumption. It matters to farmers growing potatoes for the fresh market, because the levy also applies to their sales.
You do not join: farmers are represented through the member federations. The agreement of 3 July 2025 was extended by the order of 23 September 2025 for the 2025/26–2027/28 seasons (1 August 2025 – 31 July 2028) to all operators in production and cooperatives and in trade between professionals. The levy applies to all potatoes grown in France and sold fresh (in France or for export) in the deal between the grower and the first buyer. Anyone packing or preparing potatoes under their own name must obtain a CNIPT number and send monthly activity declarations. The order excludes trade with consumers (including direct sales) from the extension; if you sell direct, ask what applies to you.
Basic levy EUR 1.76 + VAT per tonne. If the grower sells potatoes in bulk (big-bag, palox) and the first buyer identifies them, the cost is split equally: EUR 0.88/t is the grower's share, deducted by the buyer and paid to CNIPT (it must be shown in the contract or on the invoice). According to CNIPT, for direct sales the grower pays the full amount. On top of this come the promotion levy (EUR 1.00/t) for those selling to consumers, wholesalers or catering, and EUR 0.88/t on sales to industry when GIPT does not collect it. Declarations are due by the 20th of the month after the month of activity.
