The national umbrella of the interprofessional bodies for French wines and wine spirits with a protected designation of origin (AOC/AOP) or geographical indication (IGP), an association (loi 1901). It brings together 23 regional bodies and one national body (e.g. Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône, Champagne), covering more than 95% of national production. It represents them before French and EU decision-makers: interprofessional status, promotion, protection of geographical indications, CAP. Winegrowers are directly concerned by their own regional interprofessional body.
Only interprofessional bodies are members of CNIV; a winegrower cannot join directly. Winegrowers are concerned by the extended agreements of the regional body for their area (e.g. CIVB, BIVB, Inter Rhône, Comité Champagne): their levy (CVO) is made compulsory by order under Article L632-6 of the Code rural.
Winegrowers pay nothing to CNIV. The levy of each regional interprofessional body is set by its extended agreement — ask the body for your wine region.
