FNSEA is France's largest farmers' union, founded in 1946. It is made up of about 20,000 local unions, departmental (FDSEA) and regional (FRSEA) federations and 31 sector associations (e.g. cereals, dairy, meat, fruit and vegetables); by its own figures it has 212,000 members. It represents all farmers regardless of farm size, production method or sales channel, and negotiates with the government and the EU.
Membership is voluntary. Farmers do not join FNSEA directly but their local union or departmental federation (FDSEA); on sector issues they can also take part through the specialised associations (associations spécialisées).
The organisation does not publish its membership fee — ask them directly. The fee is set by the departmental federation (FDSEA).
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
