Mandatory levy, no membership
The French interbranch organisation for livestock and meat, founded in 1979. It brings together 22 national organisations from the cattle, sheep, horse and goat sectors, from farming, trade, slaughter and processing to retail and catering, with 12 regional committees. It runs interbranch agreements, quality rules, communication campaigns and a sustainability programme (Pacte Sociétal).
Members are trade federations; farmers are not direct members. However, the extended levy is due on every animal slaughtered in France: the buyer (slaughterhouse, dealer) deducts the farmer's share from the price of the animal; the final payer is the last farmer who owned it.
Adult cattle (8 months or older), from 1 January 2026: the buyer deducts from the seller of live animals the extended sector levy (EUR 0.009/kg net carcass weight), plus the breeders' levy (EUR 0.001/kg), the FNE levy (EUR 0.005/kg) and the FAR share (EUR 0.007/kg). If the price is not per kg, flat rates per head: EUR 3.15 + 0.35 + 1.70 + 2.60. The breeders' and FNE levies can be reclaimed from Interbev. Sheep, goats and horses have their own rates set out in separate practical sheets.
Fee basis: area/volume-based
