Mandatory levy, no membership
The French interbranch organisation for fresh fruit and vegetables, founded in 1976. It brings together fifteen national trade organisations from production, cooperatives, shippers, exporters and wholesale to retail and catering. It funds consumption campaigns, market analysis, research, quality standards (e.g. grading) and export promotion.
Members are trade federations; farmers are not direct members. But the extended levy is paid by every operator who first places fresh fruit or vegetables on the market in France — including a grower who grades, packs and sells, or sells directly to consumers on the farm. A grower does not pay on „brut de cueille” sales (sold after harvest before grading and packing). Potatoes, bananas, lentils, chickpeas and soya are excluded.
Turnover-based levy for 2026–2028: 0.66‰ of net sales of French-origin produce (from first placing on the market up to wholesale), 0.45‰ for imported produce; 1.89‰ and 1.62‰ on purchases by retail and catering. If the relevant annual net turnover is below EUR 30,000, a flat EUR 20 + VAT. Declaration and payment every quarter to Interfel; below EUR 500,000 a year, half-yearly or yearly payment can be requested.
Fee basis: turnover-based
