Breeders' association for Holstein-Friesian dairy cattle, founded in 1989 and the recognised breeding organisation for the breed in Hungary. Its more than 900 members keep over 248,000 cows. It keeps the herd book, carries out conformation scoring and progeny testing, estimates breeding values and publishes the Holstein Magazin.
Full members can be adult Hungarian or foreign natural persons, or legal persons registered in Hungary, who own or lease Holstein-Friesian cows or breeding bulls or crossbreed with the breed; the board accepts the membership declaration. Without animals of the breed, supporting membership is possible. Under 188/2019. (VII. 30.) Korm. rendelet the association may not refuse membership if the breeder accepts the membership obligations, and it must enter animals of the breed in the herd book on request. To produce and sell registered breeding animals you have to take part in the breeding programme.
A one-off registration fee of HUF 10,000 on joining. Under the statutes the annual fee per cow equals the previous year's average purchase price of 5 litres of extra-quality milk (based on AKI PÁIR data), and ten times that per breeding bull; cow numbers come from milk recording or, failing that, from ENAR-TIR. Supporting members pay twenty times the per-cow fee as natural persons and two hundred times as legal persons. The fee is invoiced quarterly (by the 15th of the month after the quarter). Service charges are in the price list valid from 1 March 2024 (e.g. pedigree certificate HUF 3,500, genomic breeding value estimate HUF 2,500 per animal, net).
