One of Italy's largest farmers' organisations: founded in 1977 as CIC, called CIA since 1992. It reports 650,000 members and 170,000 member farms, with regional, provincial and zone offices in almost every municipality. It represents farm incomes, sustainable farming and rural areas. Each year it helps about 1 million people through its INAC patronato, CAF and CAA offices.
Voluntary. Farmers and farm businesses join through the regional or provincial CIA organisation; CIA's associations include AGIA (young farmers), Donne in Campo (women farmers), ANP (pensioners), Turismo Verde (agritourism) and Anabio (organic).
