Voluntary
The largest professional and advocacy organisation for sheep and goat breeding in Hungary. Founded in 1991 as the National Association of Sheep Herdbook Breeders, it has also covered goats since 2009. As a recognised breeding organisation it keeps herdbooks, runs performance testing and the breeding programmes; through its regional inspectors it is in contact with about 9,000 sheep and goat keepers.
Membership is voluntary; you join with a written membership declaration. Full members can be adult Hungarian natural persons or legal persons registered in Hungary who own or lease registered purebred sheep or goats of a breed in the breeding programme, or crosses of these (confirmed by a regional manager's report); recognised sheep or goat breeding organisations can also be full members. Any registered sheep or goat keeper with a recorded flock can be an associated member. Supporting membership also exists. There are over 450 full and 1,800 associated members. Keeping and selling registered breeding animals requires taking part in the breeding programme.
Membership and service fees are approved each year by the delegates' assembly (statutes, 2022) and invoiced by e-mail. The organisation does not publish the amount — please ask them directly.
For information only, not legal advice. Mandatory membership is set by local law — each profile lists its source.
