Voluntary
Breeders' association for the native Hungarian Grey cattle, founded in 1991, with several hundred active members. It keeps the breed's herd book, carries out gene conservation tasks and helps Grey cattle products reach the market. It runs an origin certification system and a trademark for Hungarian Grey beef.
Full membership requires at least five Hungarian Grey cows (breed code 04), acceptance of the statutes and the breeding programme, regular data reporting, payment of the fees and herd book inspection of the animals. Without Grey cattle you can become a supporting member. Only members (or their partners) may use the origin trademark. Under 188/2019. (VII. 30.) Korm. rendelet the association may not refuse membership if the breeder accepts the membership obligations, and it must enter animals of the breed in the herd book on request. To produce and sell registered breeding animals you have to take part in the breeding programme.
The fee table published on the website dates from 2014 (resolution KK.2014/5): per animal, cows HUF 2,500–4,000 (by class and age), heifers HUF 1,100, over 4 years HUF 2,000; bulls and steers up to 4 years HUF 0, older HUF 2,000; oxen and breeding bulls HUF 0.
