The cattle breeding association of the province of Salzburg, based in Maishofen, with about 2,400 members and about 33,000 herdbook cows. It runs breeding programmes for Pinzgauer, Fleckvieh (Simmental), Holstein and beef breeds, keeps the herdbook and advises members on breeding, husbandry and feeding. It holds 12 auctions a year in Maishofen, Austria's largest dairy cow market; breeding and slaughter cattle are sold through Erzeugergemeinschaft Salzburger Rind GmbH. It is a member of Rinderzucht Austria.
Membership is voluntary and meant for cattle-keeping farms (dairy, beef or rearing farms). You join with a membership declaration and a SEPA direct-debit mandate. Full members undertake to pay fees on time, follow the herdbook rules, take part in performance testing and quality control, and sell their cattle under the association's rules.
Under the fee schedule valid from 1 January 2026, full members pay EUR 30 per farm per year plus EUR 8.50 per cow and bull; associate (extraordinary) members pay EUR 20 per farm per year. Other fees: herdbook registration EUR 8 per cow or heifer, EUR 10 per bull, EUR 3 per breeding calf; auction sales fee 9% (6% for breeding calves).
