Voluntary
The national non-profit union for organic farming in Slovakia, founded in early 1997 when the Naturalis union split in two; its seat is in Levoča. It has 141 members: producers, processors, experts and interested people. It gives advice, training and information on organic production and farm-gate sales, and each year runs the “Biofarma roka” (Organic Farm of the Year) competition. Inspection and certification are not its task; a separate control body does that.
Membership is voluntary. Any natural person over 18 and any legal person that accepts the statutes and the union's aims can join. The board decides on ordinary membership based on a written application; there is an online application form on the website. An organic certificate is not required for membership.
According to the website, the annual fee is €35 for individuals, schools, NGOs, traders and farmers with up to 30 ha, and €100 for farmers with more than 30 ha. The website does not say which year this applies to.
Fee basis: area/volume-based
