Voluntary
The association of Austrian farmers offering farm holidays: active since 1991, with the federal association in Salzburg and eight provincial associations. About 2,300 member farms (farms, wine estates, alpine huts) with about 27,000 guest beds advertise together under one brand. Member farms are inspected regularly and rated with 2 to 5 "flowers". It also runs a joint programme with BIO AUSTRIA ("Urlaub am Biobauernhof", about 470 farms).
Membership is voluntary; farmers join the provincial association, which sets the conditions, so they may differ by province. Only the Upper Austria association publishes detailed basic requirements: an agricultural holding number (except huts in designated alpine areas); accommodation at most 500 m walking distance from the farm, with hosts living or working on the farm (exceptions: huts, Landhof, etc.); at most 50 sleeping places; an active farm of at least 2 ha (less possible for special crops); a wine estate with at least 0.5 ha of vineyard. Common to all provinces: member farms are quality-checked and rated with 2–5 'flowers' (in Upper Austria every five years, for new members within 2 years at the latest). The other provincial pages do not list basic requirements — ask the provincial association.
The fee is set by the provincial association, per bed per year (2026; indexed to consumer prices). Examples: Vorarlberg €45.65/bed net up to 19 beds, then €22.83; Carinthia €51/bed net up to 25 beds, then €39; Styria €51.91/bed net up to 25 beds, then €35.39, one-off entry fee €250 (€490 from 26 beds), no fee in the first calendar year; Lower Austria €63.13/bed gross; Salzburg flat €268 in the first year (€698 from 22 beds), then €63/bed gross; Tyrol €69.91/bed gross.
Fee basis: per bed (guest place)
