Voluntary
An organic farming association founded in Dresden in the GDR around the time of the political change; it is still active mainly in eastern Germany, with its seat in Dresden and an office in Weimar (Thuringia). About 400 producers, processors and traders belong to it, from small gardens to cooperatives. Its standards are stricter than the EU organic regulation (soil fertility, biodiversity, circular farming); as one of the smaller associations it offers personal advice.
Voluntary. Organic or converting farmers, processors and traders can join if they follow the Gäa standards. Certification is done by state-approved organic control bodies, and advice and certification are strictly separate; every member is inspected yearly, and at least 10% of farms also get an unannounced extra inspection.
