Rinderunion Baden-Württemberg (RBW) was formed in 2000 from all cattle breeding and AI organisations of the state and is based in Herbertingen. It keeps herdbooks for Fleckvieh (Simmental), Holstein, Brown Swiss, local breeds (Vorderwälder, Hinterwälder, Limpurger) and many beef breeds. In 2025 it recorded 203,942 herdbook cows and marketed 30,904 animals. It is for dairy and beef farmers in Baden-Württemberg.
Voluntary. Under the statutes, full members can be cattle breeders living in the organisation's area (natural or legal persons, partnerships, breeding communities) who do proper breeding work and are not full members of another cattle breeding organisation; membership covers the whole herd. This includes herdbook breeders, keepers with performance recording, suckler-cow keepers and keepers who use its AI service. The statutes define the area as Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
Fees are set by the advisory board (Beirat). According to the fee table of 1 January 2024, the herdbook fee is about EUR 5 per cow per year (higher for non-AI members), plus the local breeding club fee per cow (EUR 0.50–0.80). Beef breeding farms: basic fee EUR 100 plus EUR 5 per cow per year; keeper farms EUR 40. Ask directly for current amounts.
Fee basis: number of animals
