VIVEA is the training fund for self-employed farm workers (farmers, collaborating spouses, family helpers), founded in 2001. It uses farmers' compulsory training contribution to fund their courses: it pays training providers, so courses are cheaper or free for the farmer. It works through regional committees across the whole of France, including the overseas departments.
The contribution is compulsory: under Code rural Article L718-2-1, farm and agricultural business operators (chef d'exploitation) pay an annual training contribution, collected by MSA together with social contributions. According to VIVEA, collaborating spouses, family helpers, landscape and forestry contractors and solidarity contributors (cotisant de solidarité) also contribute. Contributors can use VIVEA-funded training. There is no separate membership.
The contribution is a percentage of professional income (or a flat-rate base) — at least 0.30% by law — between a minimum and maximum set by decree in relation to the annual social security ceiling. Some groups (e.g. collaborating spouses, family helpers) pay the minimum. The amount appears on your annual MSA contribution notice; ask MSA or VIVEA for this year's exact figure.
