No direct farmer membership
The national statutory body and recognised interbranch organisation of the grape and wine sector. Its members are the local wine communities (hegyközség), organised by wine region; a grower belongs to it through their own local community. It represents Hungarian grape and wine producers and coordinates the wine-community system nationally.
Growers are not direct members. Anyone cultivating wine grapes on more than 1,000 m², or selling grapes, must or wine regardless of area, must join the local wine community of their area (Act CCXIX of 2012, §§ 3 and 15); the wine communities are members of the HNT.
Growers pay a wine-community levy to their local community: its general assembly sets the amount on the board's proposal by 31 May each year, based on the registered vineyard area, the grapes produced and the grapes and wine products purchased (Act CCXIX of 2012, § 47).
Fee basis: area/volume-based
