The agricultural self-employed scheme of Italy's state social security institute (INPS): pension, invalidity and maternity insurance for the coltivatore diretto (CD, a farmer who works the land personally), the colono/mezzadro and the imprenditore agricolo professionale (IAP). Farmers and their family members build their pension rights here. With the CD's contribution bill, INPS also collects the compulsory INAIL accident insurance premium.
Compulsory for the coltivatore diretto who farms the land personally and habitually, exclusively or mainly, where the family's work covers at least one third of the farm's labour needs (Legge 9/1963 art. 2); family members are insured too. Also compulsory for the IAP (D.Lgs. 99/2004 art. 1 c. 5-bis): professional knowledge, at least 50% of working time and at least 50% of work income from farming (25% in less-favoured areas). INPS checks CD/IAP status; it cannot be decided automatically, so check your own case.
In 2026 the contribution is 24% of a fixed "reddito convenzionale" per income band, based on an average EUR 66.86 per day (band I 156 days, band IV 312 days), plus EUR 0.81 per day (max. 156 days) and EUR 7.49 maternity contribution. Annual amount per person: CD in normal areas EUR 3,287.09–5,790.33, in mountain/less-favoured areas EUR 3,087.21–5,590.45 (including the EUR 650 or 450.12 INAIL premium); IAP EUR 2,637.09–5,140.33. Reductions over 65. Payment by F24 in four instalments: 16 Jul, 16 Sep, 16 Nov 2026 and 18 Jan 2027.
