Mandatory levy, no membership
The interprofessional body of the French goat milk sector, founded in 1983 as an association (loi 1901). It has three colleges: milk producers (FNEC, Confédération Paysanne, Coordination Rurale), dairy cooperatives (La Coopération Laitière) and private dairies (FNIL). From the levy it funds goat cheese promotion, animal welfare, health and genetics work, research and five regional bodies. It concerns every goat keeper, both those delivering milk and on-farm cheesemakers.
There is no individual membership; farmers are represented by the federations of the producers' college. The levy, however, is compulsory: the agreement of 14 May 2024 (three years from 1 January 2025) was extended by the order of 18 December 2024 to all operators in the goat milk sector; the amendment of 17 June 2025 changed the processors' share. Every goat keeper pays, whether delivering milk to a dairy or processing it on the farm.
Per 1,000 litres of milk: EUR 3.50 for producers delivering to a dairy, EUR 4 for producers processing on the farm (fermiers); the processors' share is EUR 1.50 from 1 January 2026 (previously EUR 1). According to the organisation, in 2025 producers delivering milk provided 75% of the revenue and on-farm processors 3.8%.
Fee basis: area/volume-based
