Chamber of agriculture · Hungary · national
Mandatory
The statutory public body of Hungarian agriculture and food. Anyone farming, managing forests or processing food in Hungary — primary producer, sole trader or company — is a member by law. It runs a nationwide network of village farm advisers who help with aid applications and day-to-day paperwork.
Mandatory: membership starts with registration as a primary producer, farmer or agricultural producer organisation, for sole traders with the start of agricultural activity, for companies with registration in the companies register, or when an activity listed in Annex 3 coincides with registration in the food-chain supervision system (Act CXXVI of 2012, § 5(1)). In 2026 there is a debate on mandatory membership and the fee: MOSZ is asking for voluntary membership and an end to the fee, the agriculture minister says mandatory membership stays, the chamber is being restructured by 31 December 2026, and a bill on how the fee is set is being prepared (444.hu, 2026-09-17; Népszava, 2026-10-03). No chamber membership arises for someone who is only a member of a wine community (or of the veterinary, plant-doctor or hunting chamber) and carries out no other agricultural activity (§ 5(9)).
Annual fee of 0.19% (1.9 per mille) of net turnover, at least HUF 7,000 (444.hu, 2026-09-17). The statutes link the minimum and maximum fee to the previous year's average gross wage (in 2023 the minimum was HUF 5,000). Rate and deadline are set by the statutes; an unpaid fee is a public debt collected by the tax authority like a tax (Act CXXVI of 2012, § 11). Since 2023: minimum 1% of the previous year's average gross monthly wage, otherwise 0.19% of annual turnover, maximum 400% of the average monthly wage (nak.hu).
Fee basis: turnover-based
